I’m a country girl at heart.
I may live in the city now, but I grew up on over 100 acres of wide-open space. You can still find my parent’s farm down a dusty gravel road about a mile outside of a tiny little town in the heart of the Midwest.
Over an hour from the biggest city. Which isn’t even all that big.
A place surrounded by farm land, green grass, and a whole lot of fresh, clean air.
So, I know a thing or two about connecting with God through nature.
I have fond memories of walking the banks of a country creek while praying. And sitting on a grassy hill just drinking in the late afternoon sun. Or riding silently on horseback for miles to find the kind of peace that only God can bring.
I cherish those days. When things moved slower and life was simpler.
And while city life has many benefits that I love, I still find myself looking for any opportunity to get out into nature.
Whether it’s a walk in the park or taking my kids to a nearby bike trail, I love being outside. Even the lawn chair on my back deck calls my name on a warm, sunny day.
Connecting with God through nature benefits everyone…
Maybe it’s because I grew up in the country. Or maybe it’s just how I’m wired. But, I feel closest to God when I’m outside.
Connecting with God through nature has never been difficult for me. I hear the Lord most clearly when I’m surrounded by His creation. And He somehow feels closer in those moments too.
Maybe you’re like me and feel most at home with the wind in your face. Or perhaps you prefer a city high-rise and a good cup of Starbucks. Either way, appreciating God’s creation is good for all of us.
We can find peace and hope in the magnificent splendor of this world He made.
It reminds us of all that is still good and beautiful. And that He is always closer than we might think.
So, take a moment to let these verses sink in. Praise our Creator for the intricate designs and amazing wonders that surround us every day.
And who knows, you just might discover a little “country” inside of you too!
